We Are a Family of Hockey

As people often say, sports keep people healthy. Each sweat drop swung from your forehead proves a hard movement you make. Your metabolism is refreshed with filling of new energy. Then, you are ready for the next sport battle after an utter exhaustion. This is a circulation of sport energy and also a circulation of life.
Nowadays, people grant them a much more important role to play. The sports not only keep us alive but also offer us an opportunity to say family reunion. You can not imagine the amount of pleasure from playing a sport with your family members. When I graduated from the college, I moved somewhere else and did not come back until the Thanksgiving Day of this year. Everyone of this family was so glad to see me back home, especially my grandpa. Seeing them, the old memory of my high school years hit upon my mind again. I still could remember the wonderful days when we were playing hockey together on the icy lake near our house. As I walked upstairs on the stairs, the old photos hung on the wall remind me that my Dad and my grandpa used to be excellent hockey players. The photo showing my grandpa holding a trophy for community glory proves we are a family of hockey. This is our game and tradition.
I made a creative announcement throughout the dinner table that we shall play hockey tomorrow. No one was surprised by what I said. Instead, they gave me a positive answer. The pity is that my grandpa who thinks he only has an old frame without flesh refused to go with us. With the support of every member of the family, Grandpa finally took this deal and was willing to confront the “battle”.
The following morning, everybody was armed with helmets and armatures. With a whistle by nephew, the game began. One team was led by me, the other by my father. Obviously, this was a nip-and-tuck game. I still felt very confident with my grandpa on my squad. As the game was going to an end, there was still no difference in the scores. However, I felt I was sweating as if I have been through a downpour. To be honest, whatever the game takes, I feel very happy. As I swung the ball to my grandpa, he was standing in front of the goalkeeper, ready to shoot. I began to yell and yell aloud “Shoot it, grandpa!” A powerful shoot was made with his strong and quick swing. “Grandpa made it. He is back just like he did it before.” I cried aloud, with happy tears welling in my eyes. I rushed to him and gave him a long and tight hug.
At that moment, no team lost. We were all winners because we all got happiness from hockey. I really appreciate my grandpa just gave each of us the best thanksgiving gift.

Having Regular Family Meals Is Good For Your Health!

Do you schedule and take part in family mealtime rituals? While many of us strive to spend quality time with our families, sitting down together for a meal is one simple way that’s often overlooked. Eating healthy meals together as a family not only helps you reconnect and build solid relationships – but it can also be beneficial to your health. A new study shows us why you may want to make dining with your family a standard practice.

Sitting down and eating together as a family regularly (at least three times a week) has recently been shown to decrease an entire families’ risk of becoming obese by up to 12%. Not only is sharing meal time healthy for family bonding, and for a person’s emotional and mental well-being, but it also appears to promote healthy eating and weight loss. This discovery couldn’t come at a more crucial time for North America, as it has recently been reported that obesity among young children has nearly tripled over the last three decades.

Nutrition experts are now stressing the theory that the role of family is crucial in providing children with appropriate health information and nutrition guidelines. Healthy interaction with your children during mealtimes and educating them about proper food intake is especially important for guiding them in the right nutritional direction. Through participating in family meal times regularly (approximately three times/week), children and adults in this study were 20% less likely to indulge in junk food on a regular basis, while an additional 35% were at a reduced risk of developing an eating disorder. Impressively, 24% of children in this study were more than likely to adopt a lifelong healthy lifestyle regime due to family eating rituals alone. Since childhood obesity is such a complex issue, however, engaging in regular family mealtimes is only one of many theories suggested by scientists to help decrease the risk of childhood obesity.
